Christmas Mantel

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Every year I decorate my Christmas mantel the same--in red and white and silver.  But this year I decided to try something different, A) because I figured it would be fun for House of White to do a white mantel, & B) because my kitchen/family room area is all white with accents in pale turquoise blue.  And while the blue is minimal I thought it would all play more nicely together if I kept the red in the living room.

So without further ado, here are more pictures than you probably need to see to get the picture, but taking too few pictures was NEVER my problem!

I have say I really love the white! In case you were wondering, here is where I got my stuff:

Wreath: antique shop
Candles: Walmart
Glass Garland: I think Target but I've had them for years
Peace hooks: Target (years ago)
Greenery: my back yard
Stockings: I whipped them up yesterday
Ironstone pictures/teapots: all but one I got at the Goodwill (the one that I didn't get there isn't ironstone and a friend gave it to me on May Day filled with yellow tulips!)
The books are wrapped in vintage sheet music
Poinsettias: Home Depot, then I put them in the burlap sacks I made for the Harvest Party
Mirrors: my husband made for me about ten years ago

I have a feeling that before Christmas Eve gets here my mantel is going to look more like this:

The girls are partial to their personalized stockings!

Happy Holidays!

Have I told you lately that I love your style? I love your style! Your rug is great btw, and I'm crazy about all those white pitchers. I own not a single white pitcher! I see now how wrong that is!

I love seeing white and green together - it looks so fresh and modern but natural. My girls would never let me use anything besides their red santa stockings either. :)

Stunning. Really. I love the simplicity of the white and then I love it yet again with the pops of red. I am in the middle of a room redo and don't want to commit to holiday decor until I know what will be coming in to this room so I am just making do with what I have this year. I have creme walls ( newly painted) and the absence of color is challenging for me. I was thinking white but wondering how to make it not look anemic. The black framed mirrors are the solution I was needing. Thank you.

I love all everything you've done. The paper whites in ironstone pitchers, your kitchen window sill bulb garden, the beautiful stockings hung from your mantel to name but a few. This is my first visit to your lovely blog but I will be returning.

Hi Jenni,
I hope you are having a good day today! My name is Elizabeth Jensen and I am the assistant Holidays Web editor at Better Homes and Gardens. I am contacting you because I was looking through Layla’s Christmas Mantel Linky Party (http://theletteredcottage.net/holiday-home-linky-party-our-christmas-mantel) and absolutely loved the images you posted of yours! I am currently working on creating a fresh slideshow on Christmas mantels to feature on BHG.com during the 2011 holiday season and would love to include yours. We would include an image of your mantel, a description and tips on how our readers can replicate it, and of course, give designer credit to you.

If this is something you are interested in I just need you to send me a hi-res version of the seventh image in your post (300 dpi or better), your phone number, primary email address and mailing address. Then, our editorial assistant will follow-up with a form for you to sign so that we can share your image.

A few tips I’d like to include with your mantel:
•What type of greenery did you use?
•Can you tell me anything about the wreath?
•Is there anything else/other mantel tips you’d like to share with our readers?

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns! I look forward to hearing from you.
